– helping others move from a deficit mindset to self-grace –

I personally have been on medications 80% of my life. I joke about winning the genetic lottery. That may be the only one I win. Recently, a weird thing happened to me.

Our family has battled seasonal allergies. My wife was pretty much over it, and I was on the way. I woke up Tuesday and noticed my mouth felt a little tingly. I didn’t think anything of it and carried on with my day.

I began noticing my lips swelling. Not all of my mouth, but the left side. The top and then the bottom. As the day progressed, I looked like Tyson punched me in that side of my mouth. I left work early, and my wife worked remotely that day. She said we were going to the urgent care facility nearby.

No arguments.

The swelling had increased so much so that the bottom inside of my mouth developed sores, spanning 1 to 2 inches. More on this in a bit.

My blood pressure was elevated according to them; however, it wasn’t really. It was still in the “normal” range. I was agitated at this point and a bit concerned because the swelling was not going down.

Ultimately, I got a combination shot and a prescription for steroids. The good news is my seasonal symptoms were improved. It took a while for the swelling to decrease. The soreness is still present. Does that stop me from drinking hot coffee?

What a silly question!

The verdict appears to be a medication that I’ve taken for about a quarter of my life.

Of all the things it could have been, I didn’t expect that. Seriously, I had considered a spider crawling into my mouth. It is Halloween season after all.

Strange turn. Strange events. Strange year.

And we’re not through it yet!
